Over the last few months, Virgin Australia has been making some changes to it’s longhaul routes. Virgin will relaunch it’s nonstop Melbourne to Los Angeles flight from April 4, 2017. While a Perth to Abu Dhabi nonstop flight will launch on June 9, 2017.
However, less publicised are the changes coming to the Brisbane – Los Angeles – Brisbane route.
As of April 8, 2017, you will no longer be able to fly on Virgin Australia metal flights out of Brisbane on Mondays or from Los Angeles on Fridays.
However, Virgin are introducing an evening departure from Brisbane and a morning departure from Los Angeles.
The new schedule is as follows:
Brisbane to Los Angeles (as of April 9, 2017)
Flight # VA7 | Departs Brisbane 10.50AM | Arrives Los Angeles 6.55AM
Flight # VA9 | Departs Brisbane 9.30PM | Arrives Los Angeles 5.35PM
Los Angeles to Brisbane (as of April 8, 2017)
Flight # VA8 | Departs Los Angeles 11.50PM | Arrives Brisbane 6.50AM +2
Flight # VA6 | Departs Los Angeles 11.15AM | Arrives Brisbane 6.15PM + 1
Ultimately, I think the new schedule time is great. For the brave, you will be able to depart Los Angeles on a Saturday, arrive back in Brisbane on Sunday evening and head to work Monday morning – maximising your holiday time.
As I live about a couple of hours from Brisbane, the evening departure is much more pleasant for me (I wasn’t born with the early-riser gene). I also seem to always get jetlag on the current flight schedule coming home from Los Angeles, so I’d be keen to try an evening departure into Brisbane as well.
What do you make of these new schedule changes? Are you a creature of habit or willing to give the new schedule a try?
