On Christmas Eve 2016, Virgin Australia flights VA8 and VA2 left from Los Angeles bound for Australia. Due to timezone changes, the flights wouldn’t arrive until December 26.
So, Virgin Australia, decided to do something a little out of the ordinary and bring Christmas to 38,000 ft in the sky.
Passengers entered the aircraft to find Christmas trees and the aisles decorated with tinsel.
But that’s not all. The lights were dimmed after dinner and Santa arrived to give each passenger a stocking filled with chocolate and gift cards.
Plus, Velocity Frequent Flyer members had their status upgraded or were provided with additional points.
|Existing Status||New Status|
|Velocity Red||Velocity Silver|
|Velocity Silver||Velocity Gold|
|Velocity Gold||Velocity Platinum|
|Velocity Platinum||Bonus 100,000 points|
‘Twas a VERY Merry Christmas indeed.
It’s nice to see an airline actively working to make the onboard experience an unforgettable one. Not just for Business and First passengers, but for the often forgotten Economy travellers as well.

What a great campaign by Virgin Australia! Have you ever experienced something similar on other airlines?
